Tour at 17:00

We sailed to Akurey and found lots of puffins on the island, finally! There have not been very many puffins for the past few days, but this evening the island was full of puffins :) We headed out onto Faxaflói and soon found some Minke whales in a similar area as the past few days. We also came across a group of white-beaked dolphins and finally spotted a big blow in the distance. We found a Humpback whale which we were able to observe very closely for quite some time before we left it and found another Humpback. We recognized both individuals as the same two which we spotted earlier today.

Tour at 13:00

We started the tour at Akurey, the beautiful puffin island. Then we headed further out on Faxaflói bay where we soon saw a blow in the distance. When we got closer we saw that it was a young humpback whale, and it was very energetic and entertaining to watch! It slapped the tail and rolled in the surface and we were even lucky enough to see it lounge feeding! It came head first up to the surface with the mouth wide open, and it was a spectacular sight :) Then we sailed further out and spotted a group of white beaked dolphins and some nice minke whales. At the end of the tour when we were ready to head back to the harbour we saw a big blow a bit further out. Another humpback?! It was a bigger individual than before, but this one was very entertaining as well, breaching and tail-slapping. Not a bad way to spend three hours! :)

Tour at 9:00

We had a fantastic tour this morning with a lot of people on board to see whales in great weather and the best possible whale watching conditions. Quickly we spotted our first minke whales and we had lots of them around the whole time. Also around the boat was a nice humpback whale. We watched it for a while and could see how it came up several times to feed upside down, with its belly up. We could clearly see the expandable throat folds. Later we had a big group of white beaked dolphins playing around the boat!
