Humpback galore in Reykjavík!

Mon, 05/06/2019 - 16:51

It's been an incredible past few weeks in Faxaflói bay and there seem to be plenty of fish still around for the whales to feed on. We've seen humpback whales in numbers; diving, feeding and showing off to our passengers on nearly every tour since early April!

Humpback whales weren't so common in the Reykjavík area a few years back, but now many of them seem to be returning each summer after spending the winter in warmer climates, although a few of them appear to be staying around in our waters year round (most likely non-sexually mature males and females out of gestation).

So far we've been able to identify 15 different individuals with 12 of them being new to our area! Total, that's 39 NEW humpback whales since November 2018! Learn more about our ongoing research.

We're sure enjoying having them around and love to show them off to our amazing passengers!
