Report from Eldey: Tonight gave us the best of Christmas gifts….a northern lights solar storm. The aurora had been active all day as observed by the Magnetic Observatory recordings but started to reduce in its intensity as it approached the time of the tour. It was also only forecasted a 1/9 this evening too so we really didn’t know what to expect. We could soon see a green arch to the north as we left the harbour and as the night went on more and more of the sky exploded with vivid green lights, dancing and undulating with pink fringes. Most spectacular of the displays was when it looked to be swirling around the Imagine Peace Tower that was lit for winter solstice. Just a remarkable evening and many happy faces.
