NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00
Report from Eldey: Very good conditions to see northern lights. The clear sky was just covered by a thin haze and some high clouds, and dominated by a waning gibbosus moon. The weather was quite cold, with a weak wind blowing from the mountains. While waiting to see if any northern lights appeared, we sailed close to Viðey and admired the Imagine Peace tower while recounting its history. Then we talked about the northern lights and how these are produced by the interaction between the solar winds, the Earth's magnetosphere and atmosphere. While looking at the sky and hoping to see some grrat ribbons, we also identified the constellations of Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Perseus and Andromeda, and I told the tale sorrounding the king and queen of Ethiopia and how they ended up being imprisoned on the heavens. After that, we identified the constellation of Ursa Major and I told the story behind the Bootes chasing the Great Bear. However, after our patient wait the northern lights didn't appear, thus the crew decided to hand out complimentary tickets.
