NORTHERN LIGHTS DIARY | 2100

Report from Eldey: This evening, we bundled up, grabbed a hot chocolate, and headed out, excited to see if the auroras would appear. We did not have to wait too long, as right away on our port side appeared the northern lights! There was a green arch and it was amazing that so quickly into the tour we had auroras strong enough that we could see them with our naked eye! They even started dancing, shimmering as they moved back and forth in the sky above.  We then got a double arch of green, even better!! The northern lights started to fade, but then we had some fireworks being set off over the city skyline, which was a great treat for the New Year! The night itself gave us perfect conditions, with clear skies, which allowed us to admire the stars above. After a perfect evening with northern lights, stars and fireworks, it was time to head back to port. What a perfect way to start 2026!

While their appearance may seem unpredictable, scientists have developed ways to understand when and where they might occur and by studying the activity levels, we can estimate the likelihood of seeing them.
