NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00

Report from Eldey: With  clear skies and stars shinning bright we headed out, hoping the auroras would reveal themselves to us tonight. With a Kp index of 2, we were hopeful, as that means should the auroras appear, the aurora oval should happen over Iceland. Very soon after leaving, we spotted very faint northern lights above the bay. Over the course of the tour, the auroras just got brighter and brighter! They formed a few different arcs stretching from Esja and out to the ocean, right over our heads. The different bands even started to dance sometimes. We all enjoyed amazing views of these auroras but, unfortunately, we eventually had to start our journey back to the harbour. As we made our way back though, the northern lights kept up their show and became the brightest of the night! Definitely ending the night on a high!

Few natural phenomena are as mesmerising as the aurora borealis. These shifting curtains of colour sweep across the polar skies, painting them in hues of green, pink, and violet. While their appearance may seem unpredictable, scientists have developed ways to understand when and where they might occur and by studying the activity levels, we can estimate the likelihood of seeing them.
