NORTHERN LIGHTS CRUISE | 21:00
Report from Eldey: We sailed out into a windy bay this evening, with quite some cloud cover overhead. About half an hour in though, the clouds above mount Esja started to glow up, as northern lights started to shine through. It was hard to make out with the naked eye, but a picture made it clear they were present. At the same time, a gap opened up in the cloud cover right above us, leaving only some thin high clouds. Some time later, the northern lights moved up a bit and appeared perfectly within the gap above us! While the high clouds made them look a bit more diffuse, they were still very bright, moving and dancing above us: One band turned into many and we saw many shapes form and go for almost an hour! The stars aligned this evening as a seemingly perfect coordination between northern lights and clouds made it possible for us to enjoy a great spectacle!

Few natural phenomena are as mesmerising as the aurora borealis. These shifting curtains of colour sweep across the polar skies, painting them in hues of green, pink, and violet. While their appearance may seem unpredictable, scientists have developed ways to understand when and where they might occur and by studying the activity levels, we can estimate the likelihood of seeing them.
