The wonderful puffins have arrived after their winter dwelling out on the water. It must be a relief for them to finally have time to rest here in their breeding grounds, well if we can call the breeding any rest.
About a month ago we started seeing the occasional puffin out in the whale watching area but now their numbers have increased a great deal. They've started settling on the islands around Reykjavík, mainly Akurey and Lundey which each inhabits between 10-12.000 pairs each. This time a year the puffins are preparing their burrow; either excavating a new one with their colourful bill and feet or cleaning their old one. We hope the do a great job
If you want to see these fascinating birds we recommend our 1 hour Puffin Watching Tour that departs twice a day.
