We had a very special surprise in Faxaflói Bay today. During our whale watching tour from Reykjavík, we were lucky enough to spot a short-beaked common dolphin. Despite its name, this species is actually quite rare in Icelandic waters, and sightings in our area are few and far between.
The last time we encountered a short-beaked common dolphin was back in April 2024, during a tour from our base in Akureyri. That made today’s sighting an especially exciting and unexpected moment for both our crew and passengers.
We are now waiting on additional photos and details from the encounter. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about today’s incredible sighting!
