Tour at 17:00

The weather had been really nice all day and it continued like that this evening: sunny and calm sea :-) In the beginning of the tour we spotted a couple of minke whales, but we didn't get a real good look at them, they were too far away and dived frequently. Then we headed further out to an area with really (really) many seabirds. There we spotted several minke whales, some close to us and others further away. A lot of food in the area apparently :-) It was also there that we spotted a humpback whale! It was great to see it lift its fluke before it dived and we could observe that on several occasions, sometimes with a surfacing minke whale close by. It is not common to see so many minke whales in the same area as a humpback, so it was a very nice sighting :-) On the way back to the harbour we got a very pleasant surprise when a small minke started breaching in front of the boat (not very far from the puffin island). It breached several times, also belly-up, and it was really interesting to see. A very good end to a very good day on the bay! ;-)

Tour at 13:00

On this tour we had many passengers and we went out on several boats. We could spot all four types of whales we have in Faxaflói bay. Far out in the bay were many minke whales and all the boats managed to spent some time with the minke whales. Many of the minke whales were feeding there and came up underneath the birds, which is always very fun to watch! The small and cute harbour porpoises were around, too and jumped several times out of the water. There were as well two groups of very nice and playful white-beaked dolphins! And in the end we spotted a humpback whale! It lifted several times its fluke before it went down deep diving. This was again a very successful tour with many interessting sightings.

Tour at 9:00

Wonderful weather like all the last days! Very soon after we left the harbour we spotted our first minke whale, a calf. It changed behaviour when it saw us approaching it. It suddenly came up only with its head about five times. We guess it has been curios and watched us above the surface! Later we found a rather large minke whale and stayed with it for a long time! The third minke whale was again a calf and on the way back to the harbour we spotted the minke whale calf from the beginning again. All together it has been a very successful tour with at least three individuals close to the boat!
