Today's Whale Watching tours from Reykjavík are on schedule. Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We set sail under cloudy skies, but with a beautiful view of Faxaflói bay. Not long after we left the harbour, we spotted a small pod of 3 adorable harbour porpoises! They seemed to be in a hurry, so we waved as we passed them by, heading further out into the bay. On the horizon, we could spot a blow in the distance! When we got closer, we realised that these were two beautiful humpback whales swimming together. We admired this pair for some time,  before we spotted a third blow not far ahead! After we said goodbye to the humpback pair, we observed the third humpback of the tour as it dove down below. With plenty of time left, we headed further out in search of more wildlife. Low and behold, we spotted a small pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins! These guys also seemed to be in a hurry, so we did not stop with them for long, because we had spotted even more blows out in the bay; three more humpback whales surfaced, marking the total of six humpbacks seen on this tour! They were bubble net feeding and swimming close to the boat, so everybody got a great view of these magnificent animals. Close by, another pod of white-beaked dolphins were surfing and jumping out of the waves. Sadly, at that point, we had to say goodbye to the cetaceans and return to harbour overjoyed with this fantastic tour.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out again that afternoon, with the clouds still hanging heavy in the sky, but with beautiful views stretching across Faxaflói Bay. Wrapped up in our cosy overalls and with hot chocolates in hand, we set off with a sense of excitement and anticipation, curious to see what the afternoon had in store after such an eventful morning tour. We were lucky as we did not have to wait for very long - a blow appeared straight ahead of us! As we got closer we were happy to discover that it had come from a humpback whale. We stopped and eagerly awaited its resurfacing. As we waited, a small minke whale also appeared next to us once, before it sped off in the distance. Suddently, another blow appeared, indicating that we were not only watching one whale, but two. They performed some gorgeous fluke dives just next to our side, and we were very excited to also be able to spot their beautiful pectoral fins shining brightly through the surface. After some nice time with this calm pair, we waved goodbye, and steered further into the bay as we had spotted more blows on the horizon. When we arrived, we discovered that it was another pair of humpback whales that were resting calmly on the surface. We stayed to admire their peaceful presence, before changing direction back to the harbour. What a fantastic afternoon spent out in chilly, but gorgeous Faxaflói bay!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: Geared up in our comfy overalls, we once again made our way into Faxaflói bay this evening, which was a little bit foggier and greyer than the previous tour. On our way past Grótta, we spotted 2 cute little pods of 4 harbour porpoises each! A fantastic foreshadowing as to what lay ahead. It didn't take long until we spotted a blow - this was a beautiful humpback whale! To our surprise, it wasn't just one, it was two! This pair gave us stunning displays of fluke dives before we headed further out in search of more wildlife. From there on, we spotted more and more humpback whales. We sailed closer  to another pair that also were fluke diving and lunge feeding under the surface. After, yet more blows appeared in the distance. It  turned out to be 3 humpback whales that were surfacing very synchronized, and then fluke diving down like dominos, one after the other. After a while, our time was sadly running out, so we made our way back to Reykjavík we ended the tour serenaded by a beautiful rendition of My Heart Will Go On.
