Report from Eldey:We had some rain at the beginning of the tour but it quickly stopped. The wind was picking up during the tour and was really strong at the end during the way back. But it was a wind from the south so it was not that cold. We do whale-watching tours so our first interest during our tours goes to the cetaceans, whales and dolphins that we have in Faxafloi. However, we enjoy all the biodiversity that Iceland has to offer, and today our eyes were staring at the sky. To quote my croatian colleague, northern gannet extravaganza. It was mesmerizing to see this amount of majestic seabird flying so close of the boat, mastering the wind like usually only northern fulmars do. One of those huge birds plunge-dives right in front of us, maybe ten meters further. An astonishing show. At the beginning of the tour we we also saw a pod of harbour porpoises. And we managed to see 3 minke whales. Their were hard to spot because not behaving like usually, but we manage to have great views a few time on those amazing cetaceans. A great evening tour !

Report from Eldey: The weather was more less the same as on our previous tour, with the exception that we didn't have any rain on this one. We travelled some 45 minutes before we saw a small pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins behaving in a manner that was somewhere between friendly and not caring about us. We managed to take a few nice looks at these animals that were also observed jumping. Our luck was such that we didn't have to wait much for something else to pop up. There was a minke whale in front of us; one of on this tour. They were quite active and changed directions frequently and quickly, indicating that they might have been feeding. There was also a lot of fish seen on the fish finder as well, what helps confirm this hypothesis. All in all a good tour with multiple animals all around us, at times as 20 m away from the boat.

Report from Elding: We had a nice wind from the south this morning so it was not cold. Even with the rain, passengers stayed outside well protected by our red overalls. Despite some swell, conditions were good enough for whale watching. We needed maybe 50 minutes to have our first sighthing. A minke whale appeared really close of the boat before disappearing. The researcher onboard recognized it as Tap, one of our most commonly seen minke whales! We waited a few minutes to see it again without luck. Continuing on, we found a really good area where we saw a pod of white-beaked dolphins and 3 minke whales. We had good sights on those feeding animals. One dolphin even did a back flip! After a while we had to head back to Reykjavik. During the way back we crossed two other pods of white-beaked dolphins. The second pod that was further away were jumping a lot, making a lot of splashes. We enjoyed this tour, it is nice to begin the day like this.

Good morning! We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. The wind is not to strong this morning but it is suppose to pick up as the day goes on, so the sea might be a little bumpy out there. If you are prone to getting sea sick, we do have sea sickness tablets available free of charge at the office and on board.
