Tour at 17:00

We set off in the rain, and sailed out for quite a while. We encountered a couple of Minke whales which we had a quick look at, but then headed out a bit further to look for the blow of the Humpback whale. We found the blow and found the whale :)  We observed the Humpback for about 30 minutes before we had to go back to the harbour. No Basking shark this time, although the captain and the guide were sure they spotted the fin of the shark once very briefly ;)

We had a fantastic tour this afternoon! Quite soon after leaving the harbour we spotted the basking shark again, but like in the morning it stayed at the surface only for a short while. When we reached the area where the whales tend to feed we found several minke whales. They were nice to watch and came very close to the boat. Later we went on and saw a blow which turned out to belong to a humpback whale. We recognised it as an individual which we had already watched several times during the summer. It was a lot of fun to watch this time as it was lobtailing a lot and often surfaced belly-up so we could see its throat folds. Once it came up feeding, with an open mouth! Twice it came so close to the boat that we could have touched it!!! I have never had a whale as close to the boat as this one. Our passengers were really very excited!

Tour at 9:00

Nice weather for whale-watching this morning, overcast sky and a nice calm sea! We spotted quite a couple of Minke whales which we got a really good look at at the beginning of the trip, and then we encountered two groups of white-beaked dolphins, some were jumping out of the sea. On the way back to the harbour we could spot quite a few Minke whales as we were sailing. Then we noticed something interesting... a Basking shark appeared in front of the boat, but it only stayed at the surface for about a minute, then it went down under the surface and we sailed back down to the harbour.
