Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon gave us a wonderful introduction to the Icelandic weather system: we started with a snowstorm, and ended with a sunny sky! Although the snowstorm initially limited the visibility to only a 200-meter radius, we managed to find a humpback whale in the first fifteen minutes of the tour! This testified to the abundance of whales that are around the islands of Reykjavik at this time of year - during the tour we encountered four individuals in total! A few minutes into the first sighting, the snow had disappeared and we found ourselves surrounded by three humpback whales. Two of them were swimming together, surfacing synchronously and coming very close to our boat. By very close, I mean very close - the two whales came within meters of the portside of our boat. We could see their silhouettes underwater before they broke with the surface and the suspense of seeing where they would come up next filled the boat with excitement. We also had some good looks at the other individual that was in the area, as he was also feeding on the fish that had attracted the other humpback whales, two grey seals, and hundreds of seabirds to the waters around Viðey. What a spectacle of nature!
