Report from Eldey: This morning we started our adventure with the best possible conditions: the sky was clear, there was no wind and even though there was a little bit of swell, there were no white caps in the horizon, which makes way easier for us to spot this beautiful animals. While we were slowly waking up enjoying the morning sunshine, we spotted some splashes in the distance so we went there to get a closer look. It was a humpback whale! This whale was quite busy moving around and taking deep dives quite often but also for a short time, which means that it was probably feeding. This was great for us because we enjoyed quite a lot of beautiful fluke dives. Also, a minke whale came over and joined us keeping some distance and probably also enjoying the productivity of these waters. We left these whales and sailed further out. This time we encountered a pair of humpback whales. They were quite relaxed and resting in the surface for quite a long time. From time to time, they went for a deeper dive but they surfaced shortly right next to us. In one occasion, they even came swimming slowly to the boat and checked on us doing a little roll in the surface showing its white and shiny belly. On our return we also had a sweet encounter with 5 harbour porpoises, which we were able to spot surfacing very close to us a few times. We couldn't ask for a better way to end the tour!

Report from Hafsúlan: On this sunny and nice day, we went out to explore Faxaflói bay! Although we had a bit of swell and a cold breeze coming from the North, people were staying outside, taking in all the sun and vitamin D on this beautiful day. It didn't take long until we saw our first species: a minke whale close to us, very calm! With the sunlight, the back of this minke would shine and glitter and this made this encounter more special. It also showed more its pointy snout when coming up once for a breath. In the same area, a pod of about 6-10 harbour porpoises was passing by and cutting off the surface with their speed! We enjoyed seeing them until we also spotted a blow in the distance. There was a humpback whale that in fact we recognized quite quickly: this was Harby (or "Harbour Master"), a whale seen inside the harbour a few days back. We loved seeing Harby one more time going for beautiful dives and then we continued our trip. Occasionally, we would also see another minke whale passing by in the distance in the same area! On the way, we spotted a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins that started to come very close until they were bowriding! With amazing sea conditions, we could track them and see them through the surface, so curious about our vessel. Not far from there, we saw another 2 blows in the distance, together. A pair of humpbacks was going for slow gorgeous fluke dives and then coming back up for a nap! It was great to see them so calm, just like  the sea. Then, we started returning slowly but we stopped for a few minutes when we encountered a 4th humpback, lunge feeding! With this, we decided to say goodbye and come back to the harbour, so happy with such a beautiful and sunny tour, with all 4 main species spotted!

Report from Eldey: This sunny afternoon we set sail once more. From a distance the ocean looked quite calm though sailing through it we could feel some swell. After a bit of a sail we spotted a big blow on the horizon! We got closer and enjoyed a humpback whale. This was the same humpback that we had seen in the harbour about a week ago! We have yet to name this individual though there are a few contenders like Harpa (the famous opera house in the harbour), Harbour Master (because it was swimming in the harbour!) or Harvey! We stayed here for a bit but as a few boats were coming in we decided to head on. Only a few minutes after we left we spotted 2 more blows! We had found 2 more humpback whales that were logging (resting). We were lucky as the pair stayed still very close to our boat, so we were able to fully appreciate how big this species is. After some time next to the snoozing whales, and two beautiful fluke dives, we continued on back to the harbour, full of smiles and enjoying the sunshine.

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed out for our fourth tour of the day, the sun still shining brightly in our faces, and made our way into Faxaflói bay. It didn't take long until we spotted a blow on the horizon, followed by some splashes! We immediately headed over to investigate, and there we found a humpback whale lunge feeding! This whale surfaced many times and presented us with many beautiful lung feeds, so it surely must've been hungry! After a while, we spotted two more blows together a bit further out, and we left this lunge feeding whale to see what these other humpback whales were up to. On our way there, we briefly spotted three harbour porpoises who were in a hurry, so we only saw them surface once. Upon arrival to the last known location of the other humpbacks, we were delighted to see a pod of 5-7 white-beaked dolphins eagerly waiting for these whales to surface, just like us! At first, one individual surfaced and soon after, its buddy followed! The dolphins were quick to join in on the fun, and began porpoising and jumping all around the whales, who then dove with their beautiful tail flukes rising into the air. The dolphins had disappeared at this point, so we waited a few minutes. All of a sudden, the dolphins surfaced in the distance behind us, having joined up with the first humpback whale we saw on this tour, and were now enthusiastically darting around this humpback too! After spending some time with these beautiful cetaceans, we said our goodbyes and began making our way back to Reykjavík. This was certainly a tour to remember!

Report from Elding: Even though the sky was more cloudy than this morning, we left the harbour enjoying the sunshine coming from time to time between the clouds. The conditions were still great for whale watching, no white caps on the horizon and just a weak breeze from the west. While we were sailing, we spotted the blow of a humpback whale in the distance. This whale was very focused on feeding since it had a little flock of seabirds following it taking all the fish that it could not eat. However, it did not mind us at all, it kept feeding and surfacing right next to us after doing some beautiful fluke dives. We decided to keep looking for something else and let the whale enjoy its meal. Shortly, we spotted a pod of 10 white beaked dolphins. They were very playful and came to check on the boat a couple of times. This pod also had a quite little calf, so it was very nice seeing it jumping right next to the adults. After, we saw another tall blow in the distance, which we decided to investigate. It turned out, it was another humpback whale! We were lucky to cone close enough to see a gorgeous fluke dive, then we decided it was time to go back to port while we enjoyed the beautiful landscape around us.
