Today we will be operating whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: A beautiful afternoon to sail in the biggest bay of Iceland, Faxaflói bay. Yesterday a pod of orca were prowling around the bay and as they are top predators that could induce profound changes in the behaviour of their prey. We didn´t know if we would see them again or they had scared off the rest of the wildlife because of the fear of predation or was hunger more important to risk being predated upon. Luckily as soon as we left the harbour a pod of 4 harbour porpoises crossed our path, what a great start! We sailed southwest, closer to Reykjanes with stunning snowy mountains all around. Even though the sun was shining the wind caused very chilly conditions. We wrapped up warm in the free onboard overalls and purchased a nice hot chocolate at the bar. We kept going until we spotted numerous active sea birds in the area. Suddenly, a humpback whale surfaced. The blows could be easily seen, we even enjoyed seeing the beautiful fluke when it went for a dive. Its dives lasted for 8-9 minutes and usually it appeared far from the boat, swimming pretty fast. As we thought we could offer a better experience we handed complimentary tickets to our guests so that they can enjoy another ride with us in the following 2 years.
