CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: Today was a grey day but we were very well rewarded for braving the Icelandic weather. Soon after passing Viðey, we spotted a blow in the distance! As we got closer we realised that this was the same humpback whale we saw yesterday - still feeding! Just like yesterday, the whale was moving around a lot and switching directions which kept us on our toes. While waiting for the whale to reappear, we also saw around 4 grey seals. One of the seals actually started following the boat, and then even started following the whale - something none of the crew had seen before! For the next 20 minutes or more, the seal was following the humpback and even doing synchronised dives! Maybe they were best friends, but more likely the seal was scooping up all the fish that managed to escape the whale's mouth. Then some other boats also arrived in the area so we moved away and searched other areas for other animals. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything else apart from a small pod of around 3 harbour porpoises feeding under a small flock of gulls as we headed into the harbour. Everyone was still buzzing after our incredible encounter with the humpback and seal, even with a short shower of rain at the end of the tour!
