CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: What an amazing day to start the week! With basically no winds, but still cold of course, we started our journey in Faxaflói bay. However, 5min in, nearly leaving the harbour, we spotted a black back on the surface! It was a humpback whale, Calamity, to be more specific, since we identified it right away! This whale was going for long dives, sometimes showing the fluke, sometimes not, until it breached right in front of us! No one was prepared for this full breach, and we waited for it to do it again, but the whale decided to continue its way calmly. What a sighting, and so close to the harbour and seaside of Reykjavík! We decided to see what else we could find at the area and, on the other side of Videy, we spotted Ekki, our second humpback whale. This one was lunge feeding, showing its large mouth and feeding close to the surface. It also showed us the long and white pectoral fins, before it came very close. Next to it, we could also spot almost 10 grey seals, very curious and coming close too. Sometimes they rolled on the surface, showing other parts of the body, which kept us entertained while the whale was underwater. We left Ekki and came back to Calamity, that was even closer to the harbour, nearly around the entrance of it. The sea was calm as a lake and the whales and seals were incredible. We couldn't ask for a better day to go whale watching, really!
