CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We went out with beautiful sunshine and flat sea conditions. As we passed Engey island we saw a minke whale popping up, but that was the only time we saw it coming up, so we kept on going. After a while we saw a blow in the distance. As we arrived there we saw that it were 2 humpback whales together ! :) Every now and then there were 3 minke whales around, that were coming up to breath, as well as the humpback whales. We were quite far out, so we had to return to the harbor but it was a very nice tour and on our way back we saw a 3 harbor porpoises

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon was just as beautiful as the morning. The skies were still bright blue and the sea was calm. As we passed Engey and Akurey islands just outside of the harbour, we spotted our first minke whale! Unfortunately, we only saw this individual once as we sailed past but was a good sign of sightings to come. We headed back to the areas we had had good luck earlier and we were in for a treat! The whole of the bay was crawling with minkes this afternoon! Over the whole tour we saw around 10 minke whales! There were two areas where multiple minkes were feeding amongst large flocks of birds. Two of the minkes were especially small, maybe this was their first visit to Iceland and they're the newest visitors to the bay! It was wonderful to see so many minkes and a few came very close to the boat. Unfortunately, we then had to start sailing back and got one last view of our first minke whale just before the harbour entrance.
