CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: In the afternoon, the howling wind let up a little bit, so we took advantage of this break in the weather to head out into the bay. On our way out, we even had a rainbow ahead! As we were spotting for cetaceans, several different seabirds passed our ship - some juvenile lesser black-backed gulls, kittiwakes, and even a couple of Manx shearwaters! As we sailed deeper into the bay, we kept moving in and out from under the gloomy rain clouds, and each time the Sun shone through, we got another rainbow spread across the sky! As we continued on, the rain clouds gathered above us, and we were in for some freezing wind and cold rain, but our eagle-eyed passengers were still able to spot a quick minke whale! We got to see some glimpses of this elusive whale amongst the growing waves, but living up to their reputation, it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. As we continued we got as couple more glimpses of another minke whale, although this one was a bit further away. We then took a lovely cruise around the islands near the harbour, in hopes of seeing something near them, but unfortunately we did not get to see any more cetaceans today, so we handed out complimentary tickets so that our lovely passengers could come back and try their luck with us another day.
