Report from Eldey: Today, we had a little bit of a constant drizzle. This did not stop us though. We suited up in our overalls and went out to sea! At first, we were spotting some birds. There was even some Atlantic puffins around still! We kept searching and eventually reached an area that was even busier with birds. This was a good sign for us that we had some fish around. In this area, we spotted a small pod of 2 to 3 white-beaked dolphins! While we were admiring these cetaceans, we also noticed that they were not too interactive today, so we carried on. Not long after that, we spotted a blow! We got closer and discovered that we had a humpback whale close by. We saw it doing some very nice surface sequences and we even saw it lunge feeding! This was so impressive! When we moved on, we came across a minke whale! This one was a bit elusive, so we lost it after a few surfaces. But what a nice surprise! Then, we returned to port.

Report from Elding: We suited up for the gloomy, rainy morning, with the Icelandic weather really testing our determination. But, both passengers and crew were set on seeing some cetaceans today, so bundled up in red overalls, we set out to brave the rain, the wind, and the waves ahead. As we made our way out into the bay of Faxaflói, we got to see some Atlantic puffins. As their breeding season is coming to a close, these are the last sightings of these adorable little birds until they return next spring. We soon had our eyes on a large blow ahead, a humpback whale! On our way closer, we also spotted a minke whale heading in the opposite direction, so we decided to focus on the humpback. As we followed this individual, we got to see many graceful fluke dives, as well as a rather unexpected peduncle throw!

Report from Eldey: We were a bit unfortunate with the weather today on the tour with waves, wind and rain. Our boat headed out into the ocean as far as possible according to the surprising conditions. Despite this, we had 2 minke whales at two different occasions of the beginning of the tour. However, they seemed to be quite shy and we only witnessed one or two surface sequences. After a while we turned around and decided to search for any whales closer to the islands outside of Reykjavik. The scenery surrounding the islands was beautiful and the clouds laid mystically on the mountains. Many seabirds were surrounding us and we got to sea northern gannets plunge dive from high heights. We also possibly saw the last remaining two Atlantic puffins that were in the area before they migrate out into the ocean. We searched for a long time for any whales, and finally we were blessed with a sighting. We had a minke whale appearing next to us right before heading back to port. It was a quite big individual and it came up frequently and came close to the boat multiple times. It was truly a beautiful sighting!

Report from Elding: The swell and wind today made sure we got a true Icelandic adventure in Faxaflói. We sailed out in the shelter of the land, and enjoyed some Northern gannets and Northern fulmars gliding around us. After some time, we caught the news that a minke whale was swimming around Engey. We quickly made our way over to the area and found the individual swimming by herself. As the wind blew the water away during the whale´s surfaces, we could see a lot of the minke whale´s body. The whale came up often, and sometimes quite close to the boat! When we had spent a while with this individual, we headed back to the calmer waters of the harbour of a rainy Reykjavík.
