Today's whale watching tour from Reykjavík is on schedule! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!
CLASSIC WHALE TOUR l 09:00
Report from Hafsúlan: As we left the harbour this morning, we watched a wonderful sunrise start over the city of Reykjavik and continue until the end of our tour. We first started searching around the islands, which was a good decision! Next to Lundey we saw two blows that were coming from a pair of humpback whales! This pair were very relaxed at the surface, making it easy for us to follow them and when they did go for deeper dives, they both lifted their tails high out of the air. We recognised one of the whales as our friend Banana! We watched these individuals for a while, before deciding to move on and explore some other areas. AS we approached the mouth of Hvalfjörður, we spotted a pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises. However, in typical porpoise fashion, we were only able to see them a few times before they sped off in search of more fish. We turned back towards the islands again and saw another larger pod of around 10 harbour porpoises also speeding towards the fjord. We kept sailing though and spent a little more time with our humpback pair before heading back to the harbour after a delightful morning at sea.

Report from Hafsulan: We got our sunnies out again this afternoon as the sun shone bright while a chilly but gentle wind blew small waves over the bay. After a bit of a search we found the same 2 humpback whales again. Banana and their friend were still making their way between the islands in search of food so we stuck with them for a bit. We saw fluke dive after fluke dive while they often went under for just some minutes. After a while, we decided to search around a bit more, hoping to find some more wildlife but alas. We then decided to return to the previous two humpbacks again and good thing we did because they came incredibly close to us, diving down right next to us, just to surface again right at our front! This final encounter made for a perfect ender of our day so we made our way back with the sun already setting.
