Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey and Hafsúlan for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

Report from Eldey and Hafsula: Gleðileg jól (merry Christmas)!! It was an incredible day for whale watching, the weather was amazing. It was nice and sunny which came off the snowy mountains really well. The sea was also very calm. We sailed around for a bit to start looking for cetaceans. But then we had our Christmas miracle... Orcas!!! It was a beautiful pod of 4 individuals. We got so many looks at the huge male within the pod with it's massive dorsal fin. Within the pod was another 2 females and a much smaller, younger individual. We followed them as they swam around coming up regularly. It was so cool to see this species for only the 3rd time this year within our bay. We then headed back to the harbour on our 2 boats full of very happy passengers.

This is one of the Elding crew's favourite species so excitement is especially high when we get to see these amazing animals. Occasionally they venture into Faxaflói Bay but chances of seeing them are greater when we sail from other harbours. They are the largest of the dolphins and the male dorsal fin can get up to 1.8m high and very triangular whereas the females dorsals are curved.
