Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey: Today we experienced rain during the whole tour, but for our luck, it was a very light one, still allowing everyone to stay outside enjoying the whales! We packed ourselves with overalls, raincoats and hot drinks and we were ready to go. We spotted a first blow in the distance, right when we left the harbour. It was a humpback whale and when we got closer, it did a peduncle throw! We identified this whale as Pongo, a spotted-back whale that loves to log. But this morning it was quite active! It even breached about 5 times, making big splashes! The first half of the tour was incredible, and the second one was also beautiful. We saw another humpback next to the harbour of Skafabakki and Videy island, and this one was having a feast with the many seabirds around! There were many big flocks today and we were just in the middle of everything, watching things quite close. Even the whale came very close a couple of times. We went to check Pongo again, and now it was found sleeping. Classic Pongo! After playing a lot, now it was very slow and logging at the surface. We decided to go to another areas to explore and then we returned to the harbour, very happy with such a lovely morning!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey: On this cloudy and rainy day, we went out in search of cetaceans! The sea looked calm around the islands of Reykjavík and very soon we spotted an odd line in the water! It was a humpback whale resting on the surface. This was a great find because we could see the whole whale from where we were. It eventually did a 180º turn and started to swim towards the open ocean. We followed it for a bit and then we left it to sail around and look for more life. We saw plenty of seabirds feeding on some fish at the surface but no whale life was found. We proceeded to the open ocean and we found another humpback whale! This time it was just travelling while giving us some great fluke dives. We soon also left this individual to go in search of the first one that wasn't too far. This individual was in for a treat as it breached twice once we got there, did lots of tail slaps and peduncle throws! What a sight!! And to end it all it did an amazing and slow fluke dive for us to take a picture before the end of the tour.
