Report from Eldey: This lovely sunny morning, we headed out onto the bay, with a chilly wind cooling us in the blazing sunshine. On our way out, we got to admire the Atlantic puffins on their way to and from their burrows, very busy fishing. As we were sailing out, some splashes caught our eye, a humpback whale was performing pectoral slaps at the surface! We headed over to get a better look, and got to see this whale breathing at the surface, showing off their blow, their dorsal fin, and the hump they're named after. This individual even demonstrated the whale pump for us, by pooping at the surface, fertilizing the waters in the bay. After spending a lovely time with this whale, we spotted another blow in the distance, another humpback whale. This individual showed off some gorgeous fluke dives! We spent the remainder of our time with this gentle giant, before turning and heading back towards Reykjavík. What a lovely start to the day!

We started our tour with clear skies and just a bit of wind as we sailed further into the bay. While we were searching for wildlife we enjoyed our morning coffees with amazing views and sunny skies and finally we potted a blow! As we got closer we could see the dorsal fin of a humpback whale! The whale went for a few dives showing of it´s fluke and it even tail slapped ! As we were about to start our journey back the whale resurfaced super close to our boat! A great trip in a amazing icelandic summer day.

Report from Eldey: With the wind picking up, but constant sunshine, we set sail once again, our destination: to observe some cetaceans in Faxaflói bay. After sailing for a while, we arrived at an area where we found a very calm humpback whale. It disappeared into the depths for a while, making it quite challenging to find it again. Suddenly, we spotted its blow much farther away. Although this whale's behavior was a little bit elusive, we were still able to enjoy observing it. After watching it surface a few times, we decided not to disturb the animal any further and left the area. We continued sailing and soon spotted two more blows in the distance. We arrived to an area with two humpback whales, they stayed more time at the surface of the water. One was closer to us, even swimming in our direction. We could clearly see its large pectoral fins beneath the water, which gave us a real sense of the humpback whale's impressive size. As we were trying yo leave and head back towards the harbour, this whale decided to surface right in front of us, giving us a lovely close look. It then dove under our boat, reappeared behind us, and waved us goodbye with a nice fluke dive. What a nice way to bid farewell.
