Report from Eldey: We sailed out on rather calm seas this morning with a beautiful view of the Reykjanes peninsula. After a while we noticed a big blow in the distance. This could only mean one thing - a big whale! We could quickly see that it was a humpback whale based on the hump close to the dorsal fin. One time it came really close to the boat and we could get a really good look at the large, white pectorial fins through the water. It also offered some beautiful fluke dives where we could see that the fluke of this individual was almost completely black - since every fluke is unique to every individual. Very cool! As more boats approached we wanted to respect the whale's space and left. However, we did not have to search long until we discovered a pod of about 10 white-beaked dolphins. They seemed very playful and was repeatedly jumping out of the water. There were also some calves/juveniles and they were adorable while showing off with tiny little jumps. It was a gorgeous day out at sea!

Report from Hafsulan: We left Reykjavík for our adventure in Faxa bay, passing by the little islands of Engey and Akurey. These islands are breeding colonies for various seabird species, including the Atlantic puffin. We could see a few seabirds while passing by the islands and throughout the tour. After moving away from the coast into deeper waters, we had our first sighting of about nine white-beaked dolphins. They were incredibly social, approaching us for some bow-riding (swimming right in front of our boat) and breaching (jumping out of the water) multiple times. After we moved on from these dolphins, we found a second white-beaked dolphin group. This time, the group was slightly smaller, with 4 or 5 individuals and did not approach us, preferring instead to keep a distance and swim slowly. These dolphins were likely resting and not in the mood for socializing, so we left them be and moved on. After spending some nice time at sea, we returned back to Reykjavík to have some well-deserved lunch.

Report from Eldey: After lunch, we headed out again under beautiful sunlight with high hopes after such beautiful morning. On our way, we spotted several groups of Atlantic puffins that were also out on a quest here in Faxaflói. However unlike us, their minds were instead focused on finding Sandeel to bring back to their chicks on the breeding islands by the harbor. After marveling at the cute seabirds and the impressive mountains around, we suddenly spotted some small fins poking through the surface - it was a small group of 3 white beaked dolphins! We saw these individuals surface a few times, but as they were a little elusive, we quite soon decided to continue our search. A little further away, we suddenly found a minke whale that was seemingly diving and feeding. We had some close encounters, and left when the minke whale changed direction. Suddenly, we noticed that there was a bigger blow behind us, and it turned out to be a humpback whale! We headed there and was lucky to get some beautiful close views as the individual came up for air and dove down under the surface, showing its majestic tail fluke. On our return to the city, we had two more stops to watch first a pod of 7 white beaked dolphins, and then a group of 10 white beaked dolphins. They really charmed us today, especially in the end when a couple of them decided to start jumping fully out of the surface. We came back to the harbor full of smiles, after a tour filled with whales, puffins and sunshine,

Report from Hafsulan: On this sunny afternoon, once we left the harbour, there was already a minke whale waiting for us! What a great encounter, especially because this individual came close to us a couple of times and, as it was sunny, its body was very glittery! We stayed with this one for a while, seeing its small fluke prints forming on the surface before the whale came up. We continued our way and we spotted a grey seal a few minutes after! As we needed to continued, we started scanning the horizon looking for more, while having fun with the many seabirds and beautiful landscape in Faxaflói. Even though there was a bit of swell, people were having fun on the front. Then, after a while of sailing, we spotted a few dorsal fins in the water! There were about 8 white-beaked dolphins, lined up on the surface when coming up for a breath. They were a bit elusive and therefore we lost them, but as we continued moving, now towards Reykjavik, we spotted in the distance a big blow! This one belonged to a lone humpback whale, swimming calmly. We saw it a couple of times as it went for a deep dive. We could even hear the blow as it popped up closer to us! We then started to continue our way home, after saying goodbye to these beautiful creatures.
