Tour at 20.30

It was quite overcast but the sea was calm. We sailed straight out into Faxaflói and once again the Minkes were very close. We stayed near the coast for a long time watching the Minke Whales surface feeding. There were about 5 small clusters of feeding birds in this area where we saw the first Minke and it went to each flock one by one and surface fed. After watching a few Minkes near the coast we went further offshore into the beautiful midnight sun and actually saw some White-beaked Dolphins in the distance but our attention was suddenly turned to a lunge feeding Minke Whale less than 100 meters in the opposite direction. Once our attention was back on the Dolphins they were gone :(, By this time we had to start heading back towards the coast and visit the Puffin Island. On the way back though we came across another surface feeding Minke Whale quite close to Akurey (Puffin Island), we watched this Minke for a while and then headed to the Island to see the thousands of Puffins that were flying around the island and standing on the rocks. Fantastic Tour. Both seabird and Minke Whale wise.

Tour at 17:00

We sail out again in wonderful weather, even the sun was peaking out from the clouds. And the bay was full of Minke Whales. Very close to shore we spotted the firs one. It came very close to us, swimming beside the boat, and surfacing frequently. I don’t know how many whales we spotted on this tour but they were many, some close, some further away. Again a very nice tour. We ended this tour by visiting the Puffin island Lundey.

Tour at 14:00

For this tour it was no longer threatening to rain it did rain but not for long and when it stopped the light was beautiful. We started the tour by visiting Akurey (Puffin Island) and saw many Puffins and again most with food in their mouths for their chicks. After staying with the Puffins for a little while we headed offshore and it didn´t take us long before we saw our first Minke Whale. Again the tour was full of surface feeding Minke Whales. The birds were more numerous too especially the Arctic Terns. Other birds we saw were Gannets, Gulls, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Arctic Skuas and many Puffins. At the end of the tour we did a little search to look for other species but all we found were more Minke Whales but these were really close to the coast near to Grótta lighthouse. Its really nice to have them so close to the coast. Once again a very good tour.

Tour at 13:00

We started this tour by visiting the puffin island Akurey, end a lot of puffins around.  Still very nice weather, but it started to rain a lot but our nice passengers just put on some rain jackets and overalls.   The whales didn’t mind the rain, they were wet anyway. We spotted at least 5-6 Minke Whales on this tour. Some of them came quite close and some further away. We stayed with two of them for quite some time, following them slowly, watching them feeding close to the surface, coming up in the middle of flocks of feeding birds. Just wonderful. Lots of birds in the bay, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Puffins, Black back gulls and even Gannets.

Tour at 10:00

The weather was not too bad today. The sea was flat but it was overcast and threatening to rain. We headed straight out into Faxaflói Bay for this tour and it didn´t take us long before we saw our first Minke Whale. We watched the Minke Whale for a while before our attention was redirected to the surface feeding of another. The Minke was rolling so that you could see the fluke and lunge feeding so that you could see the ventral pleats. This tour was just full of surface feeding Minke Whales which of course also attracted the seabirds (or vise verse;  Minkes were attracted to the seabirds). There were Skuas, many Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes, Gulls, Fulmars and loads of Puffins. Throughout the tour we must of seen at least 10 Minke Whales at different times, some of them doing massive blows, one of which we were sure it was a Humpback but only the Minkes were seen. We visited Akurey on the way home and once again there were thousands of Puffins, but now you are starting to see them bring back fish fo

Tour at 9:00

The weather this morning was nice, a bit cloudy but calm sea. We sailed straight out to Faxaflói bay looking for whales. It didn’t take us a long  time to find the first Minke Whale. It surfaced only two times before disappearing. But there were many animals in the same area, some very elusive and only surfacing ones ore twice.  We found at least two very nice Minke Whales in a good mood. They came very close to the boat and one came up whit lots of bubbles, just 30 m in front of us. It was feeding. So all of our lovely passengers could have a good look at the animals. We ended this nice tour by visiting the Puffin island Akurey.
