CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: What a calm and lovely morning at sea today! We started sailing out west, spotting the many seabirds on the way and having fun pointing at the Atlantic puffins. We got to an area where we spotted a blow, but before we got to this one, we spotted a minke whale on our left, closer. This individual was calm and we could see it for a couple of times, until we focused on the other blow ahead. This one belonged to a humpback whale! How lucky! This one spent a while under the water until we finally got to see its fluke, and we recognized it as Mr. Bubbles, a whale seen before in Faxaflói. We stayed a bit more with it, until we started to head back to Reykjavík. On the way, we saw a massive flock of Northern fulmars, and close to them, a pod of about 5 harbour porpoises. What fun, to see them speeding up and so predictable around us! We had fun spotting them and happy with our sightings this morning.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Not long after setting off this afternoon we saw 4 pods of harbour porpoises close to Grotta. In total there were about 7 individuals. They surfaced quickly as always but everyone got very excited when seeing this tiny species. We then carried on and for the next 2 hours or so there seemed to be no cetaceans. We saw lots of Northern gannets and Atlantic puffins though! Just as our hope was fading we saw a pod of 8-10 white beaked dolphins storming towards us. We had a great look at this pod as they swam all over making sure to keep us on our toes but give everyone a really good look. It was very special when they swam close meaning we could see them through the water.
