Report from Eldey: The weather improved a lot through the course of the tour. We left the harbour while sailing against not so kind winds, but quite soon after that we were sailing over smooth seas. The weather conditions were quite favourable for cetacean detection. But there are a lot of factors that might influence the distribution of whales and dolphins across the area, such as the movement of their prey, which they tend to fallow. This tour proved to be quite challenging for the crew. On our way back to Reykjavik we spotted a pod of white-beaked dolphins in an area with a big bird activity, indicating the presence of prey. Since they were foraging, they were being quite hard to track though, as they went for very long deeper dives and whenever they popped up at the surface they were moving quite rapidly. We tried to fallow them for a while, but that proved to be pointless. It was one of those seldom times where our tour did not met our standards. Though this is something we can never control when working with wildlife, we offered all our guests the chance to come again for free on another whale watching ride with us.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
