Report from Eldey: After bad weather yesterday, we were lucky this morning. The wave and wind action was low enough for us to leave the harbour. And despite the overcast and light rain, a few of our guests were lucky enough to spot a pair of white-beaked dolphins, coming up twice just infront of the boat. They quickly disappeared again and we continued our journey into Faxafloi. Shortly after, our captain then spotted a blow in the distance. After approaching the animal, we found that it was actually two humpback whales. And we got the opportunity to watch those usually solitary animals, feeding together on the water surface. We followed them for about 40 minutes, while they kept gulping up fish and showing us their white pectoral fins and undersides. It was a truly amazing event to have them tolerating us, as the shown behaviour has rarely been observed in the bay. But eventually we had to leave the two humpbacks and return into port. But not without a short stop on the way, to examine our at this time of the year steadily growing atlantic puffin colony. Let´s hope the weather will pick up again soon and for the humpbacks to be still around on our next tour.

We will be sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today at 9:00. It is rough seas today, so if you are prone to seasickness, we have seasickness tablets free of charge at our ticket office. Make sure to make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000
