Report from Eldey: With sunny skies, we bundled up and set sail out of the harbor, ready to head into the bay. We were however interrupted immediately after leaving port, by not just 1, but 3 minke whales! We got to see this usually very shy and elusive species up close, as they were swimming around between the islands near the harbor, no doubt drawn in by the massive shoals of fish just beneath us. The conditions were even ideal for seeing their beautiful blows, which is quite rare, and typically only seen for much larger whales. Once we've had our fill of these wonderful whales, we sailed along the coast, admiring the beautiful scenery around, such as mount Esja and Hvalfjörður (Whale Fjord), as well as the Northern fulmars soaring ahead. What a wonderful tour on this sunny day!

Report from Eldey: With a brisk breeze and sunny skies, we bundled up and headed out of the harbor. It was just our luck that as soon as we left port we spotted the blow of one minke whale! This individual was really curious and came up close on both or left and right side, swimming under the boat. It was so close that at one point we could see their minke mittens through the water. After multiple surface sequences and excellent views of this individual, we waved goodbye and continued onward. After a beautiful sail along the coast, we spotted another blow and went to investigate. We had come across another minke whale! This individual also gave us a really nice show. It was wonderful to be able to see so many surfaces with this usually elusive species. As we watched this individual, another smaller minke whale popped up a little further out on the other side of the boat, and we could follow a few dive sequences of this individual as well. After these amazing minke encounters, it was time to wave these individuals goodbye and head back to port. What a wonderful tour.
