✔ TOUR ON SCHEDULE  | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The day was just as beautiful and also as freezing as it had been yesterday. The kind of winter days that are breath taking, no matter how often you have seen this scenery. We had been sailing for just a bit over an hour when we spotted some black, triangular shapes popping out of the water surface. As we got closer, we saw plenty of seabirds feeding at the fish near the surface and amongst them a pod of probably 7 white-beaked dolphins. It took us a few minutes to understand their behaviour, but our experience of how to manouver our boats when with these animals lead to a successful sighting as the dolphins clearly trusted us and came close to our boats side and bow. There was even a juvenile with them!! One of the best signs we could hope for as it shows they are doing well. They left our sight after around 20 minutes, possibly going for another spot for feeding, so we moved on and continued searchning. Then, we got a glimpse of a minke whale! We had not seen them for a few days now, so that was a very pleasant surprise. It was, however, diving very long so we only saw it this one time.  Of course this time of the year it is crucial for their survival that they focus on their feeding so we absolutely accept this shy behaviour. Eventhough the minke whale dissappointed, the dolphins we had seen prior, the beautiful weather and scenery certainly made for a memorable tour.

Birds seen today include: cormorant, black-backed gull, black-headed gull, northern gannet,  common guillemot.

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today. There could always be some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office.
