CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: It felt like the start of summer today! We had beautiful blue skies and after a stormy day yesterday, the sea was relatively calm. We set out of the harbour and started our search. Not too long after leaving, we spotted a blow in the distance. However, as we approached the area we couldn't spot it again. After waiting for a while to see if it would reappear, we decided to move on and explore other areas. Soon enough, we spotted our first cetacean - a minke whale! This was only the second minke we've seen so far this year so it was an exciting encounter! Seeing a minke definitely means that summer is on the way! There was plenty of fish under us so this minke was making the most of the breakfast buffet! We spent some time with this individual before continuing our search through the bay. We then spotted 2 pods of harbour porpoises with a total of 7 individuals. As is characteristic of this species though, they didn't stick around for very long before looking for more fish. We continued looking in new areas of the bay for other animals but unfortunately, we eventually ran out of time and had to head back to harbour after a wonderful morning at sea!

Bird species seen today include:

Northern fulmar, eider duck, black guillemot, common guillemot, black-legged kittiwake, European shag, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, herring gull, raven

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather was perfect as we left the harbor. Sunny clear sky and a slight breeze from the east. After some time we spotted a minke whale that decided to disappear after two short blows as we got a bit closer. We tried to find him again, but these fast whales can stay hidden if they want to. Searching on we sighted a small group of around 5 harbour porpoises but also these small guys vanished between the waves quickly. As not all of our gusts got a chance to see the animals during the short encounters, we offered complementary tickets to our guest to come out with us another time to hopefully get a better look at the whales.
