CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Another beatiful sunrise over Reykjavik this morning started our tour off well. Despite a bit of wind, the sea wasn't too wavy so our passengers enjoyed the sail back towards our regular area. As we were approaching Hafnarfjörður, we saw a blow ahead of us - it was a humpback whale! Unfortunately, this individual was swimming in very shallow waters so we couldn't approach it any closer. We continued closer to land and found another humpback! This one was a lot easier to approach as it was right in the harbour and feeding actively amongst a flock of birds. We were super lucky and the whale started to lunge feed very close to our boat! We could see the folds in its chin expanding to engulf all the fish. After a while, two other whale watching boats joined us and we ran out of time so sadly had to leave this wonderful animal to finish its breakfast without us.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR I 1300

Report from Eldey: We set off back to Hafnafjodur in search of the humpbacks. This afternoon was very sunny to go with the wind. Once we got closer we saw the blow of a humpback, the same as earlier, in shallow waters. So we decided to carry on. We then found the second one which was feeding lots. We got to see some huge lunge feeds as it captured lots of fish next to plunge diving Northern gannets. This humpback was one we have known for a couple years now, called Calamity! We had a great viewing of this humpback before we headed back to our harbour.
