CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We had a cold start this morning but the clouds were breaking up to reveal some rare blue skies! We headed out of the harbour into the bay. After searching for a while, we spotted a couple of big flocks of birds feeding at the surface. We sailed past them, looking out for any other signs that there might be cetaceans around. However, no other animals appeared. We decided to turn to look elsewhere, when suddenly 3-4 white-beaked dolphins appeared right in front of our boat! We were able to follow them for a few surfaces but then they disappeared. It didn't take us long to find our second species though - 3 minke whales! They were all busy feeding but a couple of them surfaced nice and close to the boat so we got great sightings! After watching them for a while, we moved on and in the distance spotted a blow! As we got closer, we saw it was a humpback whale! It was travelling very fast but once we caught up to it we were able to see it well. Unfortunately, towards the end of the sighting, a thick fog rolled in over the water and made it more difficult to follow the whale. This was when we started heading back towards the harbour after a wonderful morning!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Hafsulan: During afternoon the skies cleared up and the sea was very calm so we set sail to the bay. Just after leaving the harbour we spotted a nice minke whale a few times before we decided to go further out. We sailed for about half an hour and then spotted another minke! e stayed with a whale for a bit but then we saw a few dorsal fins in the distance so we decided to investigate. We sighted a pod of about 10 white beaked dolphins! Swimming slowly very close to our boat! amazing. then we continued our trip and later on spotted a humpback whale! The whale was very shy and we were running out of time so we decided to head back, but we still had time to have a quick look at another minke whale and a pod of harbour porpoises before arriving to the harbour.
