Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.
COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised. Masks are not mandatory but are recommended in areas where keeping distance from others is not possible.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00
Report from Eldey : The sea was much calmer today, still choppy but with very little swell making the trip pleasant. The sky started from half cloudy to overcast. Wind from the east made the tour quite cold but with the overalls it was nice to be outside. We made a big rectangle around the bay trying to find the whales starting north and finishing south. We could no find anything until the end when another boat told us on the radio. We went there and saw 2 humpback whales that were calmly swimming there. They were going for short deep dives not showing completely there fluke but one was probably an individual that we have seen often lately and that we called Homer Simpson. We stayed a bit and head back because we were already very late. During the way back we saw a pod of white beaked dolphins, lovely.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Eldey : The sky was grey and low, and the rain started a few minutes before we left. If it was raining the whole time, the sea was still quite calm, even with the wind picking up a bit during the tour. We headed were the whales were earlier and found them quite easily. But before we arrived, we crossed an unexpected minke whale that surfaced a few times around our boat. We continued when we could not find it anymore. We reached the 2 humpback whales that we saw this morning and stayed with them half an hour. Still very chill whales, we followed them and had all the time to observe them, sometimes there were surfacing quite close to the boat. We left when other boats were arriving and we took the direction of Reykjavik. But maybe 10 minutes after leaving the first whales we saw a humpback whale peduncle slap ! We stopped and turned to see that from closer and it was another pair of humpback whale. One was being very active slapping the surface with its tail, then with its pectoral fin. What a show !
