CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning brought us gloomy skies and amazing calm seas. Not very far out of the harbour, a black dorsal fin surfaced and we got a quick look at a elusive minke whale! The first of the 4 minke whales we spotted on this trip. Although this whale was not in the mood for company, we took it as a good sign for things to come. A little further out, we spotted a blow. The blow turned into a fluke and we could confirm it was a humpback whale! This was Harbour master, a juvenile we have been seeing for 4 weeks now. This whale was feeding, taking short dives and showing their magnificent fluke each and every time. It even surfaced so close to the boat that we could see the white pectoral fins trough the surface! Truly a magical sight! During this show, more minke whales kept showing up all around! After another beautiful fluke dive, we headed home and were shortly accompanied by a big pod of harbour porpoises. Around 10 to 20 individuals were making tiny splashes in every direction, a cute ending to a wonderful morning at sea.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The conditions were still amazing when we set sail this afternoon. Unexpectedly, we encounter a humpback whale not even 20min outside the harbour! This whale was very busy feeding, taking long dives and not spending time at the surface. We decided to continue in search for something else. Further out, we found an area with lots of wildlife. There were 3 minke whales popping up every now and again, but the star of the show were the 20+ harbour porpoises! Multiple pods were feeding all around and these tiny cetaceans were surfacing a lot, very close to the boat! Porpoises are usually shy and elusive, so these kind of sightings are extremely rare and to witness them this close is very special. In the same area, we also spotted a second humpback whale! This was Harbour Master and this whale was feeding so it was diving short and treating us to beautiful fluke dives every time. After amazing encounters with both the smallest and largest cetaceans of Faxafloi, we waved our whales goodbye and headed back to port.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: For our last whale tour of the day we once again set sail out into a beautifully calm sea of Faxaflói bay. It didn't take us long to spot our first sighting of the tour: a lone humpback whale! And it was none other than our beloved Harbour Master. This individual gave us many beautiful fluke dives, showing off its unique fluke pattern, and at one point it even swam calmly right next to the boat! Through the water, we could see it's glowing pectoral fins below as it surfaced. In this area, we also spotted multiple minke whales and harbour porpoises, who have definitely been among the many highlights of the day! After spending some time with these species, we sadly had to say goodbye and make our way back to port after an amazing finale to this day.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We set out this morning with windy and rocky conditions, it was cloudy with sputters of rain but eventually the sun came out and we sailed home to a wonderful sunny harbour. We found a humpback whale about 20 minutes into the tour. This individual was probably busy feeding as dive times where very long and was often changing directions. We stayed for quite some time, making sure everyone got a good view. Eventually time was up and we had to return. On our way back some people spotted a minke whale, and most people spotted the countless harbour porpoises that came up rather close to our boat. Another successful tour!
