CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed into the bay with sunny skies, due to the strong winds during the last few days we had some swell but we were very excited to start our adventure. We sailed for about half an hour before our first sighting a pod of white beaked dolphins! They were quite scattered but it should be a minimum of about 10 dolphins in the area, some resurfacing very close to our boat and others jumping in the distance! We decided to continue our trip a bit further into the bay and we spotted 2 blows ! Humpback whales! We got closer to one of the whales and saw it's fluke a few times in between longer dives! We also got surprised by some harbour porpoises in the same area a small pod of 3 or 4. We enjoyed our time with the whale but eventually it was time to start heading back to the harbour.

Report from Eldey: In the afternoon, the wind had kicked up and the swell was bigger, giving us the true Icelandic viking experience! We headed out past the islands and soon found a pod of 10-15 white-beaked dolphins. Some of them were very curious and came right up to the boat. For a while we could follow them easily as we could see their whole bodies through the surface of the water shining in the sun. Eventually another boat arrived, so we decided to carry on our search so we didn't overcrowd the dolphins. It wasn't long before we saw a second pod of dolphins (around 5 individuals this time). They followed bedside our boat for a while but we were sailing to other areas. We then spotted a blow in the distance - it was a humpback whale! The individual was taking longer dives so we waited and our patience paid off! We were treated to a fluke dive and some close surfaces before we had to turn back towards Reykjavik. An exciting afternoon at sea!
