CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING 09:00

Report from Eldey: We went out in bright sun but with a cold breeze from the north. Our first sighting was some splashing in the distance. As we got closer, it turned out to be a pod of around 10 white-beaked dolphins. They came close to our boat and swam along with us for a while before they went on. We continued our search and as we got into an area with a lot of seabirds actively feeding on the surface. As the fish that the birds were after are also the food for the whales, it payed off to keep a close eye on the surface. Amongst the birds a mike whale was feeding and we were able to get really close to him. As he surfaced just 20 meters away from the boat we had the opportunity to get some great pictures of this elegant and fast whale. Throughout the tour we spotted several other minke whales, but they all were traveling fast and disappeared quickly between the waves.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we sailed out with a completely clear sky, which is quite exceptional for Iceland. We also enjoyed on our way out quite calm seas so it was a very relaxing tour. It took us some time but we finally found a humpback whale. At the same time we spotted this one, we found another one in the same area but we decided to stay with the first one. This whale was quite friendly going to the surface every now and then and every time it went for a deeper dive it gave us very beautiful fluke dives. We also found another blow in the distance but we didn't have time to check it out and unfortunately we had to say goodbye to this whale and go back to port.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 17:00

Report from Elding: The winds had calmed down a bit as we went out in beautiful sunshine. We had to travel quite some distance until we spotted the first blow but it was worth it. A humpback whale was active on the surface and we got best opportunities for nice pictures as he showed several fluke dives. As he also surfaced mere meters away from our boat, we got a good impression of his immense size. We ended the day with the sun in our backs as we returned to Reykjavik.
