CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: What a sunny day it is! Expectations are as high as the sun, and we want to see some action in the bay of Faxaflói! We made our way to the middle of the small fishing boats, which took us an hour to get there but apart from all the Northern fulmars flying everywhere, nothing popped up. So, we decided to head a bit further south, and soon enough a minke whale popped out of nowhere and stood around for a while. It came up quite a few times, even for minke standards and we were quite happy to see that happening in front of us and on the right-hand side of our lovely boat. And so, we returned late to the harbour but were happy to see that amazing minke!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING TOUR | 1300

Report from Eldey: What a day! We sailed out with a bit of swell, but honestly, the weather couldn’t have been better—super sunny and just a slight breeze. It was so warm at one point, I actually ditched my overalls for a bit (I mean, who needs them when the sun’s out and you're on the water, right?). We headed out towards Hafnarfjordur, and boom—we hit the jackpot. We found a massive pod of over 100 white-beaked dolphins! They were all over the place, clearly feeding, with a bunch of northern fulmars, gulls, and black-legged kittiwakes swooping down after them. It was like nature’s little feeding frenzy, and we got to witness the whole thing. Dolphins jumping out of the water, birds diving like crazy—it was pretty wild. Everyone on the boat was buzzing, and I don’t think any of us expected to see something like that today. It was one of those “wow, this is actually happening!” moments that you don’t forget.
