Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey:

South morning winds welcomed our first tour at sea. We sailed through the islands near Reykjavik in search for marine wildlife. The land surround us provided a bit of shelter so we could sail calmly at first. As we got more out into the bay we could feel the swell was getting bigger. Suddenly, we spotted a fin in the distance. As we got a bit closer we discovered a pod (group) of 10-12 white beaked dolphins. They came towards the boat for a couple of times to check us out, and they were also swimming next to the boat for few minutes. There were some juveniles in the group which were jumping completely out of the surface so we could see their whole beautiful black and white pattern. On the way back to the harbor we spotted a group of 2-3 harbor porpoises very close to the boat.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we left the harbour facing some rough seas and winds, and went straight to Hafnarfjordur. When we arrived there we saw our first Humpback whale of the day. This individual was quite elusive and difficult to spot at the beginning but eventually started to get more friendly with the boat and got really close giving us a very good chance to see it properly. After some time with this individual our time was coming to an end, and the weather got worse so we had to dock the boat in the harbour of Hafnarfjordur. In the Hafnarfjordur harbour was another Humpback whale  just a few meters from the shore. The whale was feeding and the seabirds were having a feast as well. The perfect ending for a great whale watching trip.
