Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitizer is advised. 

Report from Eldey: The sky was dark this morning with thick clouds and rain. The sea was perfect for a whale-watching tour and the wind not strong at all. We went out and could witness a beautiful sunrise colouring in pink and orange the clouds. They actually started to clear up and we finished the tour under a blue sky. We found first a minke whale near a flock of birds that we could see for a sequence of 3 surfacing. We looked for a bit but the animal did not showed up again. We went back closer to the south and saw some splashes made by a jumping white-beaked dolphin. There was probably 12-14 of them divided in two pods. They were doing a lot of splashes swimming fast and sometimes jumping. We could have a nice sight of them with some curious individuals coming under our vessel. Then we saw 2 blow further south!  It was 2 humpback whales, Neila and Mariupol that were surfacing and calmly going for fluke dives. We waited to see them a couple of times and went back to Reykjavik.

Report from Eldey: We set off from Reykjavik really excited for what may come after a great morning full of cetaceans. Very early on we could already see lots of active birds in the distance, this gave us even more hope of a successful trip. Within about 40 minutes of setting off we could see white beaked dolphins through the binoculars next to a group of feeding birds. As we got closer, we saw two blows as well! It was two of our most commonly seen individuals, often seen together, Mariupol and Neila! They surfaced many times for us to see the lovely hump on their back where humpback whales get their name from. We also got to see each of them fluke dive many times. We left these two to explore the other active birds. We then saw another blow but didn't get to see the individual that made the blow. We did get to have a closer look at some dolphins now though. There were 8 individuals in this pod. They surfaced many times enjoying riding in the waves created by our boat.

Common guillemot, razorbill, black guillemot, European shag, Great cormorant, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, black-headed gull, black-backed gull, glaucous gull,  eider duck.
