Today's whale watching tour from Reykjavík is on schedule! Remember to dress according to weather and feel free to borrow our thermal overalls if needed!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we truly had 4 seasons in a day! The sea was calm and we were eager to discover its secrets. As we sailed out we had snowy mountains surrounding us and then all of a sudden a snow storm came from behind! We did stop for a moment as we heard whispers on the radio, however nothing turned up and we sailed on. We were unsuccessful out in the bay yet when we got close to land again we found a minke whale! They can be quite elusive but this one was very friendly and came up super close to us! We stayed for a bit and enjoyed its company, but had to head home when we ran out of time.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: After the morning trip, we set off on our afternoon adventure, full of hope that we might spot the same minke whale near the harbor. The tour began with snow blowing heavily into our faces, we could barely keep our eyes open, but just enough to catch a glimpse of the incredible minke whale feeding. On more than one occasion, we were able to observe this individual lunging at its prey, probably capelines or herrings. What an incredible moment!! After a while we continued sailing north and we stopped in an another different area were a few of harbour porpoises appeared, but just for a few surfaces. Before entering the harbour, we passed through the minke whale area once more, just to finishing our adventure with this fantastic creature and its feeding behaviour.

Report from Hafsulan: We left a little before Eldey and only 10min in already had our first sighting of a minke whale! They can be quite elusive, and this one did start out that way but then started surfacing 4x in a row! It was quite a hungry individual, changing direction a few times and coming up regularly. Once the other boats arrived we did not want to overcrowd it and moved on. In that moment we were caught in a lot of snow, making everything look like a winter wonderland in spring! We headed further out in the hopes to find some more cetaceans. We found 4 harbour porpoises on the way, these were quite visible through the water and we stayed for a few moments but when time was getting tight started heading back to harbour. Once again we spotted a minke, we stayed for a bit and it came super close to the boat! Eventually we did have to start our homeward journey, this time enjoying the sun!
