Report from Hafsúlan: Despite the rough weather, a group of brave sailors went out to faxa bay hoping to find some whales. Sadly, even though we were happy to see some interesting seabirds including the Atlantic Puffin at its breeding ground Lundey and other pretty seabirds such as Manx Shearwaters, Northern Gannets and Arctic Terns, we were not able to find any whales on this tour. However, it was a quite intense experience out on pretty rough seas that some certainly enjoyed more than others. We gave out complimentary tickets that are valid for two years and would be very happy to see all of you again on one of our future cruises. Takk fyrir daginn!:)

Report from Elding: As we sailed out of the harbour, it was quite calm and we stopped at the puffin island Akurey on the way out, where we found plenty of puffins and other birds. Then we headed out on the bay and it took us long until we spotted a very dense flock of seabirds that appeared to be feeding, among them were northern gannets diving straight into the sea making big splashes! And then, there it was: a minke whale surfaced right behind the birds swimming very fast. It came up twice about 100m away from us but then it disappeared. A few minutes later another minke whale came up only about 20m from the boat but we did not get to see that one again either. We hung around for a good while but they just did not show again. We started slowly heading back to the city and the wind had picked up quite a bit by then. All of a sudden the third minke whale blew a cloud of water out of the sea right in front of us! Soon after it surfaced properly, showing of its black back and triangular dorsal fin. But like the other two minke whales, it disappeared as quickly as it had appeared and unfortunately we did not get to see it again. All in all this tour was a bit of a disappointment as there were quite few sightings. It was apparent that there was plenty of food in the bay and at least the birds were very lively. Probably the whales were busy feeding today.

Report from Hafsúlan: In the morning, a fresh wind was blowing, it was only partly overcast and the sun blinked through here and there. Before we headed out into the bay, we stopped at Akurey, one of the islands infront of Reykjavik where the Atlantic Puffins come to breed in the summer. We thoroughly enjoyed watching these cute birds of the Auk family. When we headed out further to find some cetaceans, it took us quite long and cost us some patience until we eventually spotted a group of 4 to 6 White-beaked Dolphins. They were quite active and even jumped a couple of times out of the water while moving - a behaviour that is often displayed by dolphins to overcome the drag of water. Besides the dolphins, we were also able to spot some interesting seabirds including among others Northern Gannets, Actic Terns and Arctic Skuas! Even though we would have loved to find some larger whales too, the dolphins and seabirds plus the amazing landscape of faxa bay made this trip a nice morning tour.
