CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We started the tour with a very nice and warm day. It was cloudy but the temperature was excellent and the sea was completely flat. We get excited when this happens as the Icelandic weather can be merciless sometimes. We got out of the harbor and we spot two humpback whales few km further away! They were kind of sleepy so it took us ages to see them properly.  At some point we had one of them very close to the boat too! At some point we decided to continue with the tour and we found two more humpbacks that were a bit more active. We could even see another one breaching in the distance!! After some time we decided to head back so we could get to Reykjavik in time. We saw 4 humpback whales in total.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsulan: The best tour ever!!! After good sightings in the morning we set off hopeful for more but nobody could have predicted what was to come. After about 40 minutes of sailing we could see some flukes in the distance these belonged to 2 humpback whales. As we got closer we got to see them very nicely and one of their flukes. Then out of nowhere one of them breached twice less than 20m from the front of the boat! This was amazing and for once everyone seemed to be looking in the right direction to see it. To get 2 breaches this close is so rare. This individual also performed some tail slaps. After all this excitement we then moved on to scout out more of the bay. In the distance we saw more breaching. This was actually our lovely humpback Davy Jones II. As we got closer they stopped breaching. But they came so close to our boat with our engines completely off. They spent the next 45 minutes swimming around the boat always less than about 10-15m away. They spy hopped and rolled. We all got to feel the blow as well as smelling their fishy breath. It was truly amazing. Overall, this is probably the best tour I have ever been on, it was sensational.
