Tour at 13:00
Report from Hafsúlan and Elding: because of high number of passengers we went out on two boats this afternoon. We again went out from Hafnafjörður this afternoon and we decided to sail towards the area where we had seen the humpback on the morning tour. The weather had not changed over the day so we again went through rough hail storms but that did not prevent Hafsúlan from finding a pod of harbour porpoises that they could follow for a little while. When we finally reached the area where we had encountered the whale on the morning tour it stopped hailing and the sun started to shine down on us. In that area we had great visibility; we looked for the humpback but were not able to find it. After few minutes Hafsúlan spotted a pod of white beaked dolphins, we soon realised there were 3-4 pods of dolphins nearby. After spending a great time with the dolphins we had to head back to Hafnafjörður where our tour ended.

Report from Hafsúlan: We sailed from Hafnafjörður, this enabled us to not only get shelter from land so we could get better sea conditions, but also let us spread our search for the cetacean which we always try to see on each tour. On this particular tour we had been sailing for at least an hour when finally a sighting of a Blow in the distance. We sailed towards it and after a while seen it was a humpback whale. We followed this whale for some time until we were heading out of time and had to head back. We also didn’t want to spend too long with the whale as this can inflict upon its behaviour in its natural environment to which we are only spectators. Weather wise we were not that lucky but thankfully we were able to have the weather on our side when we were viewing the whale.
Birds seen on todays tour include: Gannets, fulmars, blue fulmars, kittiwakes, glaucous gulls, iceland gulls, eider ducks, razorbill, common guillemot, black guillemot.
