Today we will be operating on Þruma RIB for our 10:00 and 14:00 Premium Whale tour and on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00, 13:00 and 17:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

    CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

We sailed out in a fairly calm bay of Faxafloi. We did not have to wait for long and as soon as we left the harbour we spotted our first cetacean: It was a minke whale that seemed to be feeding as there were also many birds actively feeding near the surface. After we stayed with that individual for some time we headed further out on the search for anything else. We were not disappointed because after some time we found a quite active pod of white beaked dolphins. They came very close to our boat and we enjoyed their company. Because we were running out of time we startyed our way back to Reykjavik. On the way back we encountered two more harbour porpoises that were travelling elusively.

    CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed across the bay with some chilly wind from the North and some white caps. We came back to the area where we saw the minke whale before and right after few minutes outside the harbor we spotted 1 minke whale. We managed to spend few time with this critter trying to see it better but it was quite elusive. Then we moved to another spot where we caught a pair of white beaked dolphins busy swimming very fast. They seemed to be shy and like they did not want to be chased. So, we decided to move when we spotted a pod of 10 other white beaked dolphins, jumping and having lots of fun. This sighting was pretty much better and we enjoyed their close presence for a while before heading back to the Old Harbor.

    CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: There was much more sun (icelandic sun standard) as we started our evening tour.  At first we saw a minke whale, but this animal was very elusive and decided to only appear once before it decided to disappear forever. Then we continued for some time and noticed a pod of 2 to 4 harbour porpoises in the far distance. Elusive, as porpoises are usually. We then continued our sail and noticed at some point fins again in the distance .. it was some white beaked dolphins ! The pod of about 6 individuals stayed with us for a while, being quite friendly with the boats coming quite close. The dolphins also exhibited some feeding behavior and made some synchronized jumps which was very cool to watch. After a good amount of time with the animals we had to head back toward the harbour.
