Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: Days like today are made to be remembered. Flat seas, no wind, decent temperature (not the usual freezing cold that we are used to lately) and a wonderful shining sun, with huge visibility of the bay. Nothing could go wrong with these conditions, and it didn't´t. It took a while to find whales today (we covered more than 15 NM in our search) but we got a good reward. A solitary minke whale appeared out of no where and it blessed us with close encounter while we could hear her powerful breath several times. After enjoying the sighting, Faxafloi had something else for us and it was an optical show led by rainbows they were popping up like mushrooms over Esja, incredible views. We had fun, we enjoyed the sailing and we saw whales, what else can you ask for?

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Incredible light play in this morning tour made this for one excellent start of the day. The sun was peaking through the clouds that were coloured red. The sea state was very pleasant and it was not too cold and windy as well. The path took us quite far away from land, about 11.4 nm. And besides plenty of bird species, there was no cetaceans in sight for a good hour and a half. Suddenly we spotted fins popping up on the surface! White-beaked dolphins; at least 10 of them. We spent some time with them and were unfortunately running out of time, so we had to turn back. But on the way back we encountered another pod of dolphins, now numbering maybe 15 individuals. What was fascinating and a welcome sight for sure were the 2 mother white-beaked dolphins with their baby calves; it must be peak calving season for these animals at this time. What a fantastic tour!

Birds species seen on todays tours: northern gannet, black-backed gull, glaucouse gull, iceland gull, common guillemot, razorbill, eider duck, great cormorant, Europen shag
