Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out onto the bay under a slightly cloudy sky with wind from the north east. A wonderful day that started with a pod of around 6 white-beaked dolphins that found an interest in our boat and came close to check us out. We got a good look at them as they played on the surface all around us. On our way further out we spotted the typical blow of a humpback whale. The graceful giant was traveling and therefor showing his impressive fluke when going for longer dives. As more boats approached us, we went on and were able to get a shot glimpse at a fast traveling minke whale. A wonderful tour to start the day.

Report from Hafsúlan: Another sunny morning greeted us in the bay, with calm sea conditions making for ideal whale watching weather. This time, we headed to the western part of Faxaflói Bay in search of cetaceans in the area. Around 6 miles from Hafnarfjörður, in a very shallow area, we spotted our first blow of the tour. It was a juvenile humpback whale, actively searching for food. The whale was constantly surrounded by noisy Arctic terns, patiently waiting for the opportunity to snatch any leftovers brought to the surface during its feeding attempts. Further we saw another blow, another individual of the same specie. We approached this second humpback whale to see their differences. Each humpback whale has unique patterns on its dorsal fin and tail. After staying a while with the whale we decided to started out trip back home, but at half way we found another humpback whale. What a lucky tour to see 3 different individual humpback whales!

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we left the habour with very good conditions for whale watching. The sun was shining with only a few clouds in the sky, together with a weak wind blowing from the north. On the way out we came across different species of seabirds which kept us awake while we were looking for cetaceans. In the distance we saw a blow, so we decided to take a closer look. When we got closer, it was not one but 2 humpback whales tail slapping. When we got closer they separated and we stayed with one of them for quite some time which treated us some very beautiful fluke dives. We decided to check out one more humpback whales that were nearby. This whale was very focused on feeding because there were also some birds eating the leftovers every time it surfaced. Finally, we went back to the harbour since we were running out of time. However, we could enjoy the view of the beautiful landscape on the way back thanks to the wonderful conditions of today's afternoon.

Report from Hafsúlan: The wind increased a little in the afternoon, but the conditions were still safe for another adventure at sea.We headed west again, aiming to pass through the same area where we had seen our first whales of the day that morning. It was there that we spotted a blow in the distance. As we approached, we found a solitary juvenile humpback whale. It spent only short periods at the surface and didn't show its tail when diving, so at first it seemed like a quiet encounter. Then, out of nowhere..boom! The juvenile launched into a massive breach, completely surprising us with this breathtaking display. What an incredible moment. After spending some time with this juvenile, we started heading back, hoping to find more animals. However, the choppy sea conditions made our search a bit more challenging. Even so, we were lucky enough to spot many puffins carrying fish in their beaks. With unforgettable memories of the juvenile whale and the puffins, we made our way back to the harbor! Thank you nature!

Report from Eldey: The winds had picked up quite a bit since our last tour and so we got the best of the North Atlantic during this tour. We went around Grótta and further south. A good choice as it turned out, as we saw the blow of a humpback whale. The young animal was busy diving for fish. It got really close to our boat and surfaced just a few meters away from us. This great experience was worth the effort to go out through the waves.

Report from Hafsúlan: This evening, we grabbed our overalls and headed out onto Faxaflói in hopes of spotting some cetaceans. As we were sailing into the waves, we had quite the rollercoaster experience, but we held on tight and had our eyes fixed on the water ahead. Although it took us a while, we finally spotted our first sign, the blow of a humpback whale! We headed closer to get a better look, and not only did we get to see this gentle giant swimming and diving up close, we also got to hear those powerful exhales at the surface. While we were admiring this whale, we spotted another blow nearby, and soon switched to following this second humpback. This individual suddenly surprised us with a half-breach, showing off some of the acrobatic surface behaviour this species is so famous for! We spent the remainder of our time enjoying this whale, before it was time for us to head back towards the harbour, getting to watch the sunset on our way home.

Northern fulmar, Northern gannet, Arctic tern, Atlantic puffin, lesser and greater black-backed gull, herring gull, black guillemot, common guillemot, Arctic skua, black-legged kittiwake
