Report from Eldey: We set sail this morning under clear skies, but the weather soon turned, with snowflakes falling softly on the sea. After about an hour of patient searching, the skies began to clear, and we spotted the blow of a humpback whale nearby. With the help of other boats, we got closer and saw the whale's spray—marking its presence. We stayed for a while, watching it resurface and disappear beneath the waves. Suddenly, a white-beaked dolphin appeared, swimming at incredible speed for just a few seconds before disappearing into the distance. We stayed with the humpback for a few minutes while it fluked until our time ran out. The brief sighting was a stunning reminder of the unpredictability of the ocean. Though the trip ended quietly, we left the water feeling lucky for the moments we’d shared with these magnificent creatures.
